LANHAM – Prince George's County recorded its 63rd homicide of the year Friday morning after a man was found shot in Lanham.
Around 9:30 a.m., a resident was walking along a path between two townhouse complexes in the 7000 block of Palamar Turn in the Woodland Landing Community when they discovered an unresponsive man on the ground and called 911.
When police and fire units from Prince George's County arrived on the scene they found an adult male armed with a handgun suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
“This is horrible,” said retired Metropolitan police officer Rafael Torruellas who has lived in the area for several years. “This is a very quiet community. I guess the violence in the county has reached our neighborhood.”
Homicide detectives on the scene do not believe the homicide was a random act and are working to identify a suspect(s) and motive in this case. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Tipsters will never have to give their names. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the homicide unit at 301-772-4925.
