DISTRICT HEIGHTS – After an extensive investigation by detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's homicide unit, detectives were able to arrest 38-year-old Martinez Ferrell of the 1000 block of Atlee Drive in Landover for the death of 29-year-old Kevin Hawkins, who shot and killed in District Heights.
On the morning of July 29 around 11:30 a.m., Hawkins was rushed to a trauma center after emergency personnel found him on the side of the road suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. On Aug. 3, Hawkins died of his injuries.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Ferrell as a suspect. Police said he and the victim were acquaintances, but are still working to identify the motive.
Ferrell is charged with first and second-degree murder, second-degree assault and use of a fire arm in a crime. He is in the custody of the department of corrections on a no-bond status. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the homicide unit at 301-772-4925.
