Three arrested in relation to Riverdale Heights homicide

homicideRIVERDALE HEIGHTS – Homicide detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department have responded to 63 homicides in the county this year (not including four homicides in Greenbelt). On average, there are one to two homicides a week in the county.

Over the last 28 days (from Aug. 18 to Sept. 16), the county had not experience a homicide, but that run ended early Saturday morning when a man was found dead in Riverdale Heights.

Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, fire/EMS units from the county fire department, along with patrol units from county police department, responded to the 6000 block of 67th Place for a report of a shooting.

When emergency personnel arrived on the scene they found 19-year-old Carlos Garita-Salazar of Coopers Land of Landover Hills inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Within 48 hours, detectives were able to arrest 29-year-old Carlos Cardenas-Banegas and 24-year-old Wilfredo Cardenas-Banegas, both of the 7200 block of Riverdale Road in Riverdale, and 18-year-old Kevin Soriana-Hernand of the 7000 block of Annapolis Road in Landover Hills in relation the homicide.

The three suspects are in custody of the department of corrections. All are charged with first and second-degree murder and are being held on a no-bond status.
