CAMP SPINGS – A 23-year-old District of Columbia man who assaulted a woman in her Camp Springs home has been arrested.
Detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit arrested Khary Edwards of the 4000 block of Wahler Court in Southeast D.C. and charged him with attempted murder, attempted rape, robbery and additional charges.
On Saturday morning, patrol units from the Prince George's County Police Department were called to a residence on Oakland Way in Camp Springs.
Prior to officers arriving on the scene, they observed Edwards, who was naked, running from the home. The officers chased Edwards, but lost sight of him in the 5800 block of Auth Road. While canvassing the area, officers located the then clothed suspect walking on Auth Road and took him into custody following another foot chase.
According to officials, Edwards had forced his way into the woman’s home and attempted to sexually assault her. He then stole items from the home before fleeing from the scene.
Court records show Edwards was arrested on Sept. 25 for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in D.C. A judge ordered his release until trial under high intensity supervision, which included a GPS-tracking ankle bracelet.
Edwards is in custody at the department of corrections on a no-bond status
