DISTRICT HEIGHTS – Detectives from the homicide unit of the Prince George's County Police Department have arrested a District Heights man in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in October.
Detectives arrested 37-year-old Davon Freeman of the 2300 block of Delano Lane in District Heights and charged him with the first-degree murder of 51-year-old Charles Wyche of Fort Washington.
On Oct.1, just before 11 a.m., District Heights Police Officers responded to the 6500 block of Kipling Parkway for the report of an unconscious man. When they arrived, the officers discovered Wyche outside in an alleyway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
During the course of the investigation, detectives developed Freeman as a suspect. Officers said a preliminary investigation revealed Freeman shot Wyche during a robbery. The suspect and victim were acquaintances.
According to court records, Wyche had been arrested several times on drug charges and other crimes.
Freeman is in the custody of the department of corrections on a no-bond status.
