Fire dept. vet resigns after being found guilty of child sex abuse

LANDOVER – A 14-year veteran of the Prince George's County Fire Department was found guilty after he pled not guilty to child sex abuse charges that stemmed from an incident in 2015.

According to court records in November 2015, 39-year-old Donald McCoy Stancell of the 5900 block of Westbrook Drive in New Carrollton sexually abused a minor under the age of 18 in Charles County.

When arrested, Stancell was charged with second-degree rape and other sex degree charges.

“After being found guilty, the Prince George's County Fire Department placed Stancell on annual leave pending an internal review for additional personnel actions. Stancell has since rendered his resignation,” fire department spokesperson Mark Brady said.
