BOWIE – The Bowie City Police Department recorded its first homicide of the year after a 27-year-old Capitol Heights man was shot inside a house in Bowie.
Patrol units from Bowie Police Department responded to the incident on Saturday, Jan. 20 at around 11:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of Pennypacker Lane.
Upon arrival, they were informed that the victim (who police have identified as Derrick Whittaker) was shot in his upper body and then driven to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives from Prince George's County Police Department were called to the scene to investigate the shooting.
Detectives believe it was not a random crime and they are working to identify a suspect(s) and motive in this case.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
