ADELPHI – Two teenagers have been recently arrested and are allegedly charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in March in Adelphi.
Homicide detectives from Prince George's County Police Department arrested 19-year-old Freddy Mendez-Cruz of Takoma Park and 16-year-old Christian Alvarado of Northeast Washington who are both allegedly charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Ruben Garcia-Ramos.
On March 22 at around 5:45 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Laguna Road in Adelphi for the report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, they found Ramos suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was transported to the hospital and died several hours later police said.
The preliminary investigation revealed the fatal shooting allegedly stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Mendez-Cruz and Ramos.
Officials say Alvarado and Mendez-Cruz are charged with first and second-degree murder. They have confessed to their involvement and are both in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
