CLINTON – Prince George's County Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is seeking the community's help after a 27-year-old District of Columbia police officer was killed on April 6 in a motorcycle collision in Clinton.
Just before 3:30 p.m., Jamal Shaw of Erie Street in Washington, D.C. who joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 2015 was off duty when the accident occurred on the 9100 block of Piscataway Road.
According to police officials, Shaw was on a motorcycle traveling westbound on Piscataway Road. A vehicle, also going westbound, changed lanes in front of Shaw allegedly forcing him to take evasive action resulting in his motorcycle sliding on its side.
A car heading eastbound then allegedly struck Shaw. Shaw was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car who hit Shaw not hurt and remained on the scene. Investigators are actively working to identify the driver who changed lanes in front of the victim. That driver allegedly fled from the scene.
Detectives from the Reconstruction Unit said the accident happened on a busy road during rush hour. If anyone saw anything or has any information, they are urged to police at (301) 731-4422.
