SUITLAND – A man in his late 50's is dead after a fire erupted in a bedroom of a duplex dwelling on April 10 in Suitland.
Around 2:45 a.m. a neighbor called 911 to report smelling smoke nearby, and a smoke alarm was going off in his neighbor's home in the 4600 block of Brookfield Drive just off Shadyside Avenue.
"When our units arrived on the scene, they reported smoke showing from the top floor of the duplex dwelling," said Prince George's County Fire Department spokesperson Mark Brady. "Fire crews got inside and located a small fire in the bedroom and also located the body of an adult male who was pronounced dead on the scene."
Family members on the scene have identified the victim as Larry Littlejohn Jr. who has lived in the house for several years. Brady added that an autopsy would have to be performed to determine the cause of death before it could be ruled a fire fatality.
Standard procedure is for the county police to assist fire investigators until a cause of fire and death have been established.
No other civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Preliminary fire loss is estimated to be at $2,500.
