PALMER PARK – A 23-year-old high school track coach and elementary
school teacher’s aide for Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) was arrested on April 25 for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student.
Detectives arrested Charles Wolford and charged him with sexual abuse of a minor, second-degree assault and fourth-degree sex offense/person in position of authority.
"We were told about the allegation on Sunday by the parents," said Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski. "We immediately launched an investigation and found Wolford and the teenage girl engaged in sexual acts in the past week.
However, none of the sexual activity took place on school grounds according to Stawinski.
Wolford was a track coach at Fairmont High School where the student attended and was also a teacher's aide at Gladys N. Spellman Elementary School in Cheverly.
“We have no reason to believe that there are additional victims in this case,” said Stawinski. “We believe that this is an extraordinarily inappropriate relationship, but that it is only the one youth and not others.”
Wolford is in custody at the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro.
