NEW CARROLLTON – An officer who has been on the force with the New Carrollton Police Department for four years was allegedly stabbed by a customer at a Starbucks when the two men reportedly got into a confrontation outside the store on May 4th in New Carrollton.
The incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. at the Starbucks on the 8400 block of Annapolis Road near the beltway.
"The New Carrollton officer was in the Starbucks as a patron when a store manager approached him and reported that a customer who was in the store had threatened someone with a knife the night before," Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski, said.
"While the two were on the ground, someone produced a knife, and both men were stabbed."
The officer was stabbed in the arm, and the suspect was stabbed in the stomach as both men had to undergo surgery and are now listed in stable condition at a local trauma center.
Detectives are working to determine who had the knife and are collecting surveillance video from the strip mall where the Starbucks is located, the chief said.
