A 33-year-old convicted sex offender who lived Temple Hills is now behind bars in Montgomery County where he is facing sexual assault and robbery charges.

North Carolina police arrested Kevin Darnell Ray after a four-day crime spree that started in Wheaton last week, when he robbed a woman at gunpoint of her credit cards, pin numbers and her car.

Within 24 hours of the Wheaton incident, Ray struck again in Bethesda. He robbed two people of their credit cards, zip tied them and sexually assaulted a housekeeper at gunpoint in a home invasion.

Police officials said Ray had an accomplice who assisted with the robbery.

Soon after the robberies, Ray used the credit cars at ATMs in Bethesda and the District of Columbia. At both locations, photos were taken of him using the cards.

“Really, it was the speed in which we were able to get information from the banks,” said Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger. “And the ATM withdrawals, the video and with the transactions that were made with the victim’s cards really is what led us to the suspect.”

On Friday, Ray hit again in Prince George’s County when he raped a woman at gunpoint and tied up six people, including a seven-year-old boy, in a house on Berkley Street in Temple Hills.

“To understand why he did these things, the things that occurred in all three of these are evil in my opinion,” Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw said.

Investigators believe Ray used Metro for transportation into the neighborhoods he targeted and then stole cars to get away.

Police from Montgomery and Prince George’s County searched a home on Dallas Drive in Temple Hills Saturday morning where they believe Ray had been staying. Investigators found three guns, wigs and masks inside the house.

Detectives are now trying to determine if Ray is connected to any other crimes.

Police said they are still looking for a second suspect who was present for last Wednesday’s home invasion in Bethesda. Police don’t believe the second suspect participated in the sexual assault.
