Student of the Month - Yaa Awusi-Sarkodie

11.17 SOTMBELTSVILLE – Yaa Awusi-Sarkodie is a teenage girl that has lived through a number of hardships in her life, but has used her struggles as fuel to keep moving forward.

Awusi-Sarkodie, a senior at High Point High School, lost her mother when she was just 8 years old. In May 2013, at 12, she immigrated to the United States from Ghana with her brothers to reunite with her father, who moved to America when she was just a 1-year-old.


Bladensburg girls stun High Point in first round of soccer play

Rosa Jimenez 2BELTSVILLE – The Bladensburg girls’ soccer team managed only two wins for the entire 2017 regular season and earned the final seed in the 4A North Region bracket.

Very little was expected of the Lady Mustangs heading into their first-round match against third-seeded High Point, who soundly defeated Bladensburg 7-0 back on Sept. 25.

How things change in the playoffs.


DuVal smacks High Point, prepares for Wise

UPPER MARLBORO – Inclement weather this past weekend forced Prince George’s County Public Schools to relocate a bevy of games to Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School field.

DuVal’s game with High Point was one of those games, and just like the weather, DuVal poured it on and coasted to a 43-0 victory.
