Eight Chesapeake Bayhawks were selected to play in the Major League Lacrosse All-Star game at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., on July 13.
The 13th All-Star will feature Ben Rubeor, Drew Westervelt, Barney Ehrmann, Michael Evans, Kip Turner, Matt Abbot, Steven Brooks and Kyle Dixon. The Bayhawks represent eight out of the 38 players chosen to participate in the exhibition.
Westervelt has been the backbone of the Bayhawks this season. He leads the team with 18 goals, and he has scored 24 points and earned six assists this season.
Rubeor, an attackman alongside Westervelt, scored 23 points with 18 goals and five assists.
Dixon received his fifth All-Star nomination by tallying up 24 points on 18 goals, four two-pointer goals and 15 assists.
Turner has been one of the Bayhawks most valuable defensive players. The goalie has racked up 107 saves and managed to have the second best save percentage in the league (.611).
Brooks and Abbott were selected to play in the All-Star game for the third time in their careers.
Ehrman and Evans have had solid performances on defense this season. Ehrman accounted for 20 ground balls during an eight-game span. Evans is making his fourth appearance as an All-Star.
The Bayhawks look to break their .500 record after the All-Star break. The Bayhawks take on the Boston Cannons at 7:35 p.m. July 18 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
