A 24-year-old Upper Marlboro man has been arrested for the 57th homicide this year in Prince George’s County.

Just before midnight Friday, Nov. 16, Prince George’s County and Seat Pleasant police officers responded to the Low Price Gas Station in the 5600 block of Martin Luther King Highway near the Washington, D.C., border for a reported person shot in the parking lot.

According to Cpl. Maria McKinney, Prince George’s County Police Department spokeswoman, officers discovered Sharod Darnell James, 31, of Southeast Washington, D.C., suffering from gunshot wounds. James was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

With tips from the community and other information provided to Prince George’s County homicide detectives, Lawson Mahdi, 24, of Upper Marlboro, was arrested in connection with this murder.

Mahdi has been charged with second-degree murder and other related charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
