A man was killed in what Prince George’s County police are calling a "justifiable homicide" Sunday in Hillcrest Heights.

Prince George’s County Police Department patrol units responded just after 12:30 a.m. to the 4400 block of 23rd Parkway for a reported shooting. Responding officers located a man suffering multiple gunshots to his upper body.

Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, PGFD officials said.

In a statement from PGPD spokesperson Cpl. Maria McKinney, the man allegedly approached two people who were sitting in a car and attempted to rob the two individuals with a gun. Then, a fight allegedly occurred between the would-be robber and one of the men inside the car. During the alleged fight, the would-be robber was shot and killed.

McKinney said the two occupants of the vehicle are cooperating with detectives. No criminal charges have been placed at this time.

UPDATE (Monday, May 13): The deceased has been identified as Cordell Antonio Brown, 26, of Southeast Washington, D.C., according to police reports.
