A man was killed in a police departmental shooting at a Calverton apartment complex.
The shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. Oct. 2 in the 3900 block of Lighthouse Way.
Prince George’s County Police Department responded to the apartment complex after a 911 caller reported hearing a woman screaming: “Get off me!” The caller also reported hearing what he thought was the woman being struck, police officials said.
“The patrol officer chased the man for approximately one-quarter mile in the dark, near a wood line,” said Julie Parker, county police spokeswoman. “When the patrol officer caught up to him, the suspect was approaching a fence.”
The preliminary investigation indicated the suspect refused to obey multiple commands from the patrol officer. Then the officer, a seven-year veteran of the police department, discharged his weapon, striking and killing the suspect.
