DuVal has been a dominating force this year on the mat. They hosted Surrattsville and Bladensburg last Wednesday with ambitions of leaving victorious in back-to-back contests.

The Tigers fulfilled their goals in both of their lopsided wins, and they look forward to developing their championship form against the rest of the Prince George’s County 4A teams.

“Since the Northern tournament, these guys got a true introduction of wrestling in the state, and since the team is new with a few returners, it gave them more composition of what is exactly supposed to go on,” DuVal wrestling coach Cortez Hayes said. “We have been working and drilling them on certain things, and it has made a big difference.”

DuVal defated Surrattsville 48-24 and trounced Bladensburg in points scored, 54-12.

Jalen Hill, representing the 106-pound weight class, started off the evening against Surrattsville’s Ronald Williams. Hill pinned Williams down in the first period. Hill repeated victory in his second match, against Bladensburg’s Micah Short Freeman, with a pin in the third period.

DuVal’s team has plenty of talent on its roster, and the Tigers have arguably one of the best wrestlers in Prince George’s County. Thierro Diallo is a two-time All-American, three-time County Champion, and has placed second and third place in the state.

Hill has been working out with Diallo to improve his technique and is returning to the Tigers for his second season. Hill is coming along as a young prospect and has put in a lot of time to boast a 13-1 record this season.

“It’s a true family,” Hayes said. “The new guys have embraced the sport and the returners are perusing the state championship, and they are already talking about in the postseason. They want to do open tournaments, and they want to go to camps, so it is really great, I truly like the team. We have a lot of athletes on the team, and, after some postseason and off-season training, I feel like we have great things for us for this year and beyond.”
