This fall and winter, Greenbelt residents will have the opportunity to enjoy a number of productions at the Greenbelt Arts Center, located in the lower level of the Roosevelt Center on Southway Drive.

The season will include guest performances of Shakespeare’s tragedy “King Lear,” produced by the Rude Mechanicals, from Aug. 20 through Sept. 4, as well as the 24-hour Aloniz improv fundraiser for Eleanor Roosevelt High School, said Betsy Marks Delaney, the theater’s general manager.

The Greenbelt Arts Center will also present five of its own productions: “Volpone,” which is now in rehearsal; “Chapter Two,” a Neil Simon comedy; “Doubt: A Parable;” “Reefer Madness” and “The Burial at Thebes.”

Auditions for upcoming shows will be held on the following dates: Aug. 23 and 24 for “Chapter Two,” October 19 and 20 for “Doubt: A Parable,” and December 14 and 15 for “Reefer Madness,” a musical comedy about what happens when “clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana,” according to the center's website.

The schedule of performances is “Volpone” from Sept. 24 through Oct. 16, “Chapter Two” starting Nov. 12 through Dec. 4, “Doubt: A Parable” beginning Jan. 21 through Feb. 12, “Reefer Madness” from March 11 through April 2 and “The Burial at Thebes” goes up April 22 through May 13.
