Hyattsville anniversary

My friends and neighbors enjoyed the events of the April 12th weekend, when our city celebrated its 127 anniversary with a parade and festival. The weather was perfect for the parade, which finished at Magruder Park.  The food and the entertainment was tops. A great time was had by all!

Callicoon and the Catskills

I was at a music festival at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, N.Y., which is located in the Catskills. The variety of entertainment and the people that we met were the main highlights of the trip. The ride through the mountains of Pennsylvania and New York will remain with us for a long time. The weather, of course, was cooler than here with the temperatures in the 40s.

Think spring

It won’t be long, folks, as our first Jam Session for the spring has been scheduled for May 10 in the parking lot of our municipal building. Mmm … those cheeseburgers will melt in your mouth. I hope to see you there. I met so many old and new friends at last year’s sessions.

Take a mystery tour

Margritt Vausse and her Prince Georges Travelers is offering a Mystery Trip on Saturday, May18, leaving Hyattsville at 7:30 in the morning. Margritt will not tell us where we are going, because it is a “mystery,” but she said that the journey does include several cultural and scenic stops, travel by motorcoach and lunch. For more inquiries, please call Margritt at 301-355-5566.

Hyattsville history: 1965

As promised earlier in the year, the State Roads Commission repaired the resurfaced Baltimore Avenue bridge, which was open only to northbound traffic for two weeks beginning in late October. In another spruce-up campaign, the city cracked down on old automobiles kept by residents on their property by making it illegal to own a dismantled or inoperable vehicle in a residential area.
