UniverSoul Circus, local youth and the county police department join together for a special ‘Unity Matters’ event

athingsNATIONAL HARBOR – The UniverSoul Circus was proud to partner with local youth and the Prince George’s County Police Department for a special evening at the July 21 performance at National Harbor – ‘Unity Matters – Youth and Police Working Together to Bring Unity to the Community.’

The event highlighted the police department and the good work it continuously does with the young people of Prince George’s County. UniverSoul donated 250 tickets for the police and the Police Explorers Program who were present at the performance.

Affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, the Police Explorers Program is a law enforcement-based organization for males and females between the ages of 14 and 18. The program educates youths on the various roles of police officers in the community. The participants came from communities throughout Prince George’s County and they got the opportunity to experience some of the training required for law enforcement officers, assist with various aspects of community events and assist the Police Department with community outreach projects.

The advisors for the Police Explorers Program are sworn law enforcement officers who volunteer time to coordinate the various events, programs and training exercises. The volunteers also act as mentors to the participants as they navigate matters concerning personal development, family dynamics, academic success, peer pressure and conflict resolution.

In addition to the police officers and youths, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker III and Police Chief Hank Stawinski were in attendance.
