Prince George’s County Police arrested a Laurel teenager in connection to a shooting at an on-duty police officer in his marked police cruiser.
While on patrol on Contee Road in Laurel, a Prince George’s County Police Department officer heard a projectile strike his cruiser’s driver’s side door, just under the window. The officer immediately requested help and a search of the area around 6 p.m. Saturday.
Within minutes, additional patrol units from Prince George’s County and Laurel police departments started to search the area, according to Cpl. Larry Johnson of the county police department.
A short time later, patrol officers stopped Andre Christopher Rivers, 16, and recovered a BB gun, which police believe Rivers used to shoot at the police officer.
Rivers was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged as an adult with first-degree assault and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is being held on a $75,000 bond.
The police officer was not injured.
