A Friday morning fire at Forestville Liquor severely damaged the longstanding building.

The fire was reported just before 9:30 a.m. Friday at Forestville Liquor in the 3600 block of Forestville Road off Pennsylvania Avenue. The liquor store has been at the same location since the early 1970s.

“As result of the extensive damage, I believe the store will be closed for some time,” said Mark Brady, chief spokesman for Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department.

Firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the one-story store. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

“The fire was located in walls and traveled to the roof area on the building, causing extensive damage,” Brady said.

County fire investigators said the fire was likely accidental, but it is under investigation, Brady said.

An injured firefighter was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries were minor, Brady said.
