About a dozen people were displaced Saturday afternoon after a fire erupted in a Bladensburg apartment building.

The fire was reported just before 3 p.m. in the 5000 block of Edmonston Road at the Fletcher’s Field Apartments.

Firefighters encountered flames coming from the first floor of a three-story apartment building. Several residents were trapped on the upper floors.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, said Mark Brady, chief spokesman for Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department.

“Fire crews were able to shelter in place residents who live on the upper floors,” Brady said.

Due to smoke and water damage and power being disconnected to the building about 12 people are displaced.

There were no injuries reported, Brady said.

The cause of the fire in still under investigation by fire investigators, Brady said.
