Schools donate funds to Haiti

Left, Karina Placido and Diego Ramirez, both students at Riverdale Elementary School in Riverdale Park, display some checks they will donate to benefit the American Red Cross’s Haiti relief efforts following a devastating Jan. 12 earthquake in Port-au-Prince. The students held a pay-to-dress-down event on Jan. 22 to raise money, but they also asked neighbors and family members to donate to their effort. They raised three times more money than they planned: a total of $3,059.
