SUITLAND – A man is dead after he was shot multiple times in the parking lot of a Suitland apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 2 p.m., county police, along with fire/EMS units, responded to the Capitol Crossing Apartment complex in the 3800 block of Southern Avenue near the Washington, D.C. border for the report of a person shot.
According to Prince George's County Police Department's spokesperson Cpl. Lamar Robinson, when officers arrived on the scene they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was not breathing and had no pulse. Officers attempted to perform life-saving measures on the victim before he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“I heard gunfire,” said Bobby Collins, who lives just a few buildings away from the scene of the shooting. “A few minutes later I heard sirens and went outside and saw the police around the young man on the ground. It did not look good for the young man.”
Police are trying to determine if a new pair on Nike tennis shoes that were next to the victim had something to do with the shooting. They are asking for help from the residents who live in the complex.
“Somebody had to see something. It happened in the middle of a parking lot in the middle of the day,” Robinson said.
It was the county’s fourth homicide in the last six days, and the 18th of the year.
Homicide detectives believe this was not and random act and are working to identify a motive and suspect in this fatal shooting. A cash reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide unit at 301-772-4925.
