Mystics win and more this week in sports

MysticsThe Washington Mystics defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 79-75 on July 17. Washington Mystics guard Tierra Ruffin-Pratt led the way with 18 points, three rebounds and two steals in an impressive victory.

Washington Mystics center Kia Vaughn was a dominant force in the post and was just shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds by games end.

Baysox pick up another victory
The Bowie Baysox defeated the Altoona Curve 3-0 on July 20. Bowie Baysox starting pitcher Tim Berry earned his fifth win of the season after throwing three strikeouts in a seven-inning outing. Bowie Baysox outfielder Ronald Bermudez had a solid performance at the plate with three hits, and two runs to help lead his team to victory.

Six BSU players receive preseason honors
Beyond Sports Network (BSN) recently announced their 2014 Preseason D2 (CIAA) All America Football Team. Six Bowie State University student-athletes were selected for this prestigious honor. The players selected to the 25-man team are: Khari Lee, Keith Brown of Temple Hills, Austin Hochman, Anthony McDaniel of Fort Washington, Mario Diaz-Aviles and Justin Nestor.

Diggs named to another watch list
University of Maryland star wide receiver Stefon Diggs was recently selected to the 2014 Walter Camp watch list. This honor award is only given to the best college football players of the year, and Diggs is only one of 50 players to be selected the list. The Walter Camp watch list is the nation's fourth-oldest individual college football accolade.
