The Wildcats, known for their build-up attack through quick passing, could not find the scoring touch in the run of play. However, last year’s 4A Regional semifinalists have added a new wrinkle to their offensive prowess: set pieces, or designed plays off restarts.


Roosevelt volleyball remains undefeated with win over Bowie

The rivalry has not disappointed in past matchups when the girls have taken the floor, and it was no different this time around.

The two busloads of Hurd fans, and the 7,643 fans in the Barclays Center stands, were holding their collective breaths as a stoppage due to a head butt meant the winner would be determined by the scorecards – and at that point it was anybody’s guess as to who was winning the fight.


Terrapins unable to stop the Wildcats’ attack in 37-21 loss

COLLEGE PARK – The University of Maryland Terrapins football team allowed more than 530 yards of total offense while Northwestern running back Justin Jackson rushed for 174 yards and scored two touchdowns, leading the Wildcats to a 37-21 victory in front of 38,325 at Maryland Stadium on Oct. 14.

Laurel has put itself in playoff mode this October and kept things rolling once again against Surrattsville. A powerful Spartans’ running game, led by Jaheem Williams and his three touchdowns, had what it took to dismantle the Hornets, 42-7, on Oct. 14.


Good Coaching Has No Gender: Ocampos-Barry restores glory to Bladensburg boys’ soccer

Juliana Ocampos BarryRIVERDALE – José Argueta lay motionless after being slammed to the ground following a hard challenge during the Bladensburg boys’ soccer team’s 2-1 loss at Parkdale on Sept. 22.

As Assistant Coach Craig Tupper yelled at one of the referees, Bladensburg Head Coach Juliana Ocampos-Barry rushed onto the field to check on her injured striker.

She helped Argueta up and walked him toward the sidelines. After a final check, Ocampos-Barry allowed him back onto the field before returning to a methodical, quiet stance and crossing her arms.
