Former Maryland basketball star Jasmina Perazic has received a prestigious honor.

Perazic, a former All-American, will be inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame next year as part of the six-member class of 2014.

“Being inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame is truly a great honor, almost unbelievable,” said Perazic, currently an assistant coach at Monmouth University in New Jersey. “It’s beautiful to receive such great recognition. Through all my years of playing basketball, I never thought about awards, accolades or money. I just loved the game. There was never a minute that I would rather spend time doing anything else but playing basketball. I had the passion for the game.”

Perazic led the Terps to the 1982 NCAA Final Four and a final ranking of No. 3 in the country. The 1983 All-American will become Maryland’s fourth player inducted, joining her coach Chris Weller along with Vicky Bullett and Tara Heiss.

“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment and honor for Jaz,” Maryland head coach Brenda Frese said. “She had an amazing career here at the University of Maryland, where her name and number hang in the rafters. Not only was she a terrific individual player, but she was a member of multiple championship teams. She was a winner internationally where she won multiple medals in various competitions. Simply stated, her resume is amazing and worthy of this honor. We are really happy for her and her family.”

Perazic was a two-time member of the Yugoslavian Olympic Team and led them to a bronze medal in 1980. She also played one season in the WNBA with the New York Liberty.

Prior to joining the Monmouth coaching staff, Perazic enjoyed a four-year head coaching stint at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg where she led the Roadrunners to the WCAC and City Title in her final season at the helm of the program.

The 2014 induction class also includes Lin Dunn (coach), Michelle Edwards (player), Mimi Griffin (contributor), Yolanda Griffith (player) and Charlotte West (contributor).
