Last Tuesday’s election resulted in some changes to the membership of the Prince George’s County Board of Education.

Board Member Rosalind A. Johnson, District 1, did not run for re-election and will be ending her term in January. Two newcomers ran for Johnson’s spot: Zabrina Epps, 40, of Laurel, and David H. Murray, 19, of Bowie. Epps won a very close race with 50.3 percent of the vote to Murray’s 49.46 percent, according to unofficial election results.

In District 4, incumbent Patricia Eubanks won the election against Micah Watson with 54.39 percent of the vote. Watson was surprised by the results.

“I thought we ran a very good campaign,” he said. “Unfortunately, we came up a little bit short.”

Incumbent Chair Jeana Jacobs beat college student Raaheela Ahmed with 52.62 percent of the vote, but it was a close race. Ahmed had 47.18 percent of the vote. Jacobs is grateful to those who recognized her passion and voted to re-elect her. She plans to work collaboratively with the community, and she will begin by creating various focus groups on educational and community issues.

“We have important work ahead of us including hiring the next superintendent. I am ready.” Jacobs said.

In District 7, Carletta Fellows won 58.25 percent of the vote, unseating incumbent Henry P. Armwood Jr.

In District 8, incumbent Edward Burroughs III beat challenger Andre Nottingham with a landslide 80.33 percent of the vote.
