Prince George’s County homicide detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred just before midnight Tuesday at a Laurel apartment building.
Prince George’s County Police Department patrol units responded to the Villages at Montpelier apartment complex, located in the 11600 block of South Laurel Drive, for a reported person shot, according to Cpl. Maria McKinney.
Officers located a man identified as James Thomas Cornell, of Ellicott City, suffering from a gunshot to his head. Cornell was pronounced dead on the scene, said McKinney.
Officer First Class Edward Martin said Wednesday morning that three masked man with guns forced their way into the apartment, where a poker game was going on, and shot Cornell before fleeing the scene.
A resident who lives next to the apartment building told The Sentinel that he heard a gunshot and called the police.
