Farewell, neighbors

We bid a fond farewell to Robert and Paula Mineart, formerly of Hamilton Street, who have moved to New Hampshire. Bob is a native of that state and both were looking forward to spending their retirement years there. They lived on Hamilton Street since the 1970s. There they raised their three children. They were both very active in St. Jerome’s Church, where Bob played the organ and Paula sang in the choir. Paula did editorial work for publications pertaining to the city. We will dearly miss them.

Senior citizen holiday events

St. Jerome’s Church gave a delightful holiday party/luncheon for its senior citizens on Tuesday, Dec. 11.  The children’s choir of St. Jerome’s School performed, and everyone had a great time. The Gwendolyn Britt Senior Citizens Center of Brentwood also sponsored a holiday gathering for its seniors on Friday, Dec. 14. Those in attendance were entertained by the Charlie Taylor Band, which enabled many of the seniors to take to the dance floor.

District 22 town hall

State Sen. Paul Pinsky, District 22, conducted a town hall meeting on Saturday, Dec. 15. Many pertinent issues were discussed, such as transportation, education, taxes, crime and agenda items for the next legislative session, which will begin in January. Representatives from the Purple Line were there explaining that this light rail project will take several years to complete. A very informative question and answer period followed the meeting.

Hats off to the Prince George’s Choral Society for its holiday concert given at St. Jerome’s Church on Sunday, Dec. 16.  Their presentation was just beautiful, and I hope that they soon will return.

Hyattsville history: 1962

A special program on Nov. 25 marked the dedication of the new Municipal Building on Jefferson Street.  State and local dignitaries were on hand to mark the occasion.
