DuVal dunks on Suitland
DuVal’s boys’ basketball team dropped Suitland 83-72 last Thursday. Michael Cunningham led the Tigers in scoring with 24 points and seven rebounds. Paris Jones also had a big night with 19 points, and Edward Polite recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. DuVal improved its record to 17-4 as the Tigers look forward to the playoffs.
Roosevelt raids Parkdale
Eleanor Roosevelt’s boys’ basketball team defeated Parkdale 57-40 last Thursday night. Tiwian Kendley scored 16 points, and Malachi Alexander scored in double-figures.
Gwynn Park edges past Friendly
Gwynn Park’s girls’ basketball team defeated Friendly 72-60 last Thursday. Takayla Ellis scored 21 points, and Genesis Lucas scored 14 points and snagged five rebounds. The Yellow Jackets improved their record to 18-3 and are in first place.
Roosevelt prevails over Parkdale
Eleanor Roosevelt’s girls’ basketball squad knocked off Parkdale 53-34 on the road Thursday. Daria Simmons led the Raiders in scoring with 18 points, and Kaila Charles had 10 points. Simmons is the catalyst of Roosevelt’s offensive arsenal, averaging close to 15 points per game.
Bowie State beats Chowan
Bowie State University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams were victorious Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Chowan 60-53. Courtney Baynard and Jasmine Jacobs both accounted for 12 points each, and Moriah Goodman had a game-high of eight rebounds. The men’s team beat Chowan by four points, 67-63. Byron Westmoreland finished his senior season with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.
