DeMatha soccer shuts out Maret
DeMatha’s soccer team defeated Maret 3-0 on Sept. 3 in the team’s season opener. DeMatha forward Arion Assue led the charge with two goals. Teammate A.J. Read tacked on another goal to earn DeMatha the shutout. DeMatha sophomore midfielder Strick Newsome provided an assist in the victory.
McNamara beats Mount St. Joseph, 51-42
Bishop McNamara’s football team defeated Mount St. Joseph 51-42 on Aug. 31 in its season opener. McNamara quarterback Ramar Williams completed 19 of 25 throws for 316 yards. He threw three touchdowns and rushed more than 100 yards for three rushing touchdowns. McNamara wide receiver Jordan Crockett also had a big game with 211 yards receiving and two receiving touchdowns. He also returned a 60-yard punt for a touchdown.
Langhorne scores 16 points in Mystics loss
The Washington Mystics fell to the Chicago Sky 93-79 on Sunday at the Verizon Center. However, the Mystics saw impressive performances from a few star players. Ivory Latta scored 18 points with seven assists, and University of Maryland alumna Crystal Langhorne scored 16 points with three rebounds.
DuVal defeats District team, 21-7
DuVal High School’s football team defeated Wilson (Washington, D.C.) 21-7 on Saturday in a key road victory. Quarterback Antoine Brooks rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown. He also threw 85 yards and a touchdown. Running back Terrance Davenport rushed 158 yards to help lead his team to victory.
