DuVal’s Charles Ekeanyanwu scores season-high against Parkdale
Parkdale boys’ basketball team lost in an 85-75 upset against DuVal at home Friday. Charles Ekeanyanwu scored with a season-high of 36 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to give the Tigers a much needed win in the competitive 4A division. DuVal’s leading scorer Mike Cunningham sank 20 points for the Tigers. DuVal now boasts a 7-2 record, while Parkdale suffered its first loss of the season. Both teams have consistently been playing at a high level.
Undefeated Eleanor Roosevelt girls
Eleanor Roosevelt girls’ basketball squad remains undefeated (9-0) after the 67-point shellacking of Northwestern on Friday night. Sophomore center/power forward Tol Omokore led the Raiders in scoring with 19 points, and freshman shooting forward/power foward Kaila Charles contributed 15 points. Roosevelt will face Flowers on Tuesday hoping to keep the winning streak going.
Tough loss for Bowie State women’s basketball
Bowie State University women’s basketball team lost a close match against Johnson C. Smith on Saturday. Upper Marlboro native Brooke Miles led her team in scoring with 19 points in the 63-61 loss. Bowie resident Jasmine Mcintosh recorded her third-career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs now fall to 4-6.
Bowie State men’s basketball beats Johnson C. Smith
Bowie State University men’s basketball team took out Johnson C. Smith (84-80) on Saturday. Senior Najee White led the Bulldogs with 17 points, and the NCAA Division II leading scorer Byron Westmorland followed up with 12 points in a key victory. The Bulldogs now improve their record to 5-6, but they still have a lot of work to do to make the CIAA Basketball Tournament.
