Community asks for full resources for students, teachers in PGCPS budget

PGCPS logoUPPER MARLBORO – Theresa Dudley, the president of the county teacher’s union, is furious.

Every year, it seems to her, the most important budget items to the Prince George’s County Educators Association (PGCEA) and to teachers are the first items struck from the budget when the county does not give the Prince George’s County Board of Education all the funds it asks for.

School Board Votes To Shut Down Two Schools

Kenmoor ESUPPER MARLBORO—Parents are disturbed and confused, according to Fanchon Christopher, president of the Parent-Teacher Association at Kenmoor Elementary school, after the Board of Education voted 7-2 in favor of changing school zone boundaries and grade structures, resulting in the closure of Kenmoor Elementary School and Thomas Claggett Elementary school.

School system working to help ninth graders advance

FlowersUPPER MARLBORO – Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) announced its ninth-grade promotion rate has increased by almost 6 percent system-wide during the 2013-14 school year, and while members of the Board of Education lauded the improvement, they said room for improvement still exists.
