Perryville ends Douglass' run in volleyball semifinals

COLLEGE PARK – A high school volleyball battle ensued at the Ritchie Coliseum between the Frederick Douglass Eagles and the Perryville Panthers with a chance to advance to the 1A girls’ state finals.

With a win-or-go-home scenario in place, both teams left it all out on the hardwood. Despite Douglass’ best efforts, Perryville was too much for the Lady Eagles to handle as the Panthers won in three consecutive sets (25-4, 25-7, 25-15) on Nov. 15 to move on to the state championship.

Roosevelt volleyball defeats Northwestern to win regional title

GREENBELT - The top two Prince George’s County volleyball teams, Northwestern and Eleanor Roosevelt, battled in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 4A playoff bracket last Friday for a chance to become the queens of the county and move on to the state semifinals.

Roosevelt, who dominated opposing teams throughout the season, reminded Northwestern just how good it is by sweeping the Lady Wildcats, 25-9, 25-10, 25-11 on Nov. 10 to win the regional championship.

Rashard Jackson DKUPPER MARLBORO – National Christian Academy came into its high school football matchup with Riverdale Baptist undefeated at 8-0.

By boasting an unblemished record, one might have thought the Eagles were the favorites against a Crusaders’ team that was .500 entering the Oct. 27 contest.

UPDATED: College Park non-citizen voting does not pass after all

CPvoteCOLLEGE PARK – After four long hours in an over-packed room in College Park, the College Park City Council finally came to a decision for Charter Resolution 17-CR-02, which would allow non-citizens to vote in city elections and authorize a supplemental voter list.

After a 4-3-1 vote, the verdict was “yes” in favor of passing 17-CR-02. However, city officials announced on Friday- three days after Tuesday's split vote- that the measure did not pass after all.
