Four people in a plane that crashed Saturday morning into a cornfield in Bowie were not injured.

The airplane was landing at Freeway Airport in Bowie when it veered from the runway and overturned in the cornfield about 100 feet away, said Mark Brady, spokesperson for Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department.

Prince George’s County firefighters were dispatched before 10 a.m. Saturday for the reported airplane crash.

A Prince George’s County police official has identified the pilot as a 43-year-old man from Brandywine. Police said the passengers were a 38-year-old woman from Alexandria, her 14-year-old son and her 9-year-old daughter.

The occupants were evaluated by medics, Brady said. All four passengers were standing next to the plane when emergency crews arrived and did not appear to be injured.

The pilot and passengers were interviewed by Maryland State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The group was on a sightseeing flight, police said.
