Marion “Pat/Gabby” Ekeland (Age 80)
Pat Ekeland, of Crofton, MD, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Sunrise of Mt. Vernon, in Alexandria, VA after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was pre-deceased by her husband William (Bill,) and brother Fred Myers. Pat was a loving mother to her two sons David (deceased) and Brian. Pat was one of five children born to James and Gertrude Myers in Boston, Massachusetts. She and her sister Vickie (Florence) were raised by Lottie and Fred Cooper in Haverhill, MA and attended Haverhill High School. Pat married Bill Ekeland in 1955, and raised her two sons with him in College Park and Lanham, Maryland. Pat was a long-term employee of the CIA and worked on a number Senate and House staff committees on Capitol Hill. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, her interest in hand writing analysis, and belief in non-traditional healing and spirituality. Pat is survived by her son Brian of Alexandria, VA, her sister Vickie, and brothers John and George Myers, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, December 18th at 11:00am at the Del Ray United Methodist Church at 100 E. Windsor Ave., Alexandria, VA with visitation beginning at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
