Raiders ranked at top
Eleanor Roosevelt’s boys’ basketball team crushed Lake Clifton 68-39 Saturday. Following the weekend, Roosevelt sits at the top of the 4A rankings, and the Raiders have been playing in championship form lately. Trevor Evans had 20 points, and Jesse Ason accounted for 11 points to earn the team’s 14th win this season.
Central beats Fairmont Heights
Central’s boys’ basketball team defeated Fairmont Heights, 85-46. As of Monday, the Falcons are in second place and have won nine games this season. Micheal Hooks, Calvin Lovitt and Davon Taylor all did their part in their victory. Each player had 17 points to their name in a total team effort.
Undefeated Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt’s girls’ basketball team remained undefeated after an impressive 65-31 win against Parkdale last Tuesday. The first place Raiders earned their 14th win this season with superb play from Daria Simmons and Kaila Charles. Simmons led her team in scoring with 18 points; Charles had 16 points.
Gwynn Park girls leading league
Gwynn Park’s girls’ basketball team knocked off Forestville 61-33 last Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets were in first place in their league and are one of the most dangerous teams in the county. Genesis Lucas lit up the scoreboard with 31 points and had 11 rebounds to boot. Her double-double performance made the difference.
BSU wins home game
Bowie State University’s women’s basketball squad defeated Virginia Union University 64-56 at home. The Lady Bulldogs earned their fifth win of the year against the formidable opponent last Wednesday. Bria Robinson led all scorers with 21 points. Former Gwynn Park guard Channell Mackey earned 10 points, five assists and three rebounds.
