Eleanor Roosevelt girls beat Bowie
Eleanor Roosevelt’s girls’ basketball team defeated Bowie 48-44 on Friday night. Daria Simmons could not be stopped, despite Bowie’s last minute heroics. Simmons led all scorers with 22 points and was a force to be reckoned with defensively. Senior guard Jazmin Faulkner also scored nine points in the Raiders’ victory that kept the undefeated streak alive.
Gwynn Park girls sit atop the standings
After the weekend, Gwynn Park’s girls’ basketball squad was still sitting at first place after knocking off Surrattsville 77-24 on Friday. The Yellow Jackets remain undefeated and have been a dangerous team on anyone’s schedule so far this year. Genesis Lucas scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds. Takayla Ellis also had an impressive showing with 13 points and two rebounds in the convincing win.
Bowie boys battle to win in overtime
Bowie’s boys’ basketball team defeated Eleanor Roosevelt on Friday in a 60-55 thriller that had to be settled in overtime. Roosevelt was handed its first loss of the season at home, and the Raiders will have to bounce back next week against Parkdale, a team hungry for a win after riding a three-game losing streak. Dejuan Smith led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points and hit a clutch three-point shot to advance into overtime.
Potomac boys top Crossland
Potomac’s boys’ basketball program dropped Crossland 69-53 on Friday. After Friday’s game, Potomac now boasts an 11-2 record and is sitting in first place. Romone Saunders had a double-double performance — scoring 22 points and posting 15 rebounds. Dion Wiley also had a big night with 15 points and two rebounds.
