Riverdale Baptist coach close to 1,000 victories

Riverdale Baptist head baseball coach Terry Terrill is inching ever closer to his 1,000th career win after defeating Avalon (8-6) on Saturday. Terrill currently is 957-240 for his career. The Crusaders captured their fourth victory of the season, and they hope to move on further in the Champions Classic tournament with a win against Archbishop Spalding on Wednesday in Alexandria, Va.

Eleanor Roosevelt claims state title

Eleanor Roosevelt’s boys’ basketball team won the 4A State Championship title in College Park against Magruder, 61-56. The Raiders returned to the championship game for their fourth-straight year, and they came out on top under the bright lights of Comcast Center. Tiwian Kendley led the Raiders in scoring with 19 points, and he also pulled down seven rebounds. Senior Malachi Alexander added to the effort with seven points and 16 rebounds.

Trio leads Bowie State track and field teams

Bowie State University’s Kendall Reynolds, Channing Johnson and Bryan Williams led the Bulldogs’ track and field team at the VCU Outdoor Invitational Saturday in Richmond. Reynolds placed first in the women’s long jump (5.89m) and triple jump (12.29m). Johnson placed first in the men’s discus throw (42.01), and Williams captured second place in the men’s triple jump (13.61m).

Towson recruits DuVal basketball player

DuVal High School point guard Michael Cunningham recently received a Division I offer to play for Towson. Cunningham reportedly received the offer last Thursday via text message from the Towson assistant Bruce Shingler. Cunningham was undoubtedly one of the best 4A players, averaging more than18 points per game. Despite losing to Wise in the playoffs, Cunningham showed his true leadership capabilities in clutch situations, and has posted two triple-doubles.
