A 3-year-old boy was rescued July 11 by a Prince George’s County police officer.
Officer Ariel Acosta, a five-year veteran of Prince George’s County Police Department, was a mile away when a call was dispatched for an injured child around 5 p.m. last Thursday in the 1500 block of Livingston Road in Accokeek.
“When I arrived on the scene, I quickly located the child and saw he was not breathing and had turned blue,” Acosta said. “I started CPR and was able to resuscitate him before (Prince George’s County) Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.”
The boy got his neck tangled in window blind cords, which cut off his breathing, PGFD spokesman Mark Brady said. He was transported to a local hospital where he was alert and talking, police said.
“There is no question the officer did save the boy’s life,” Brady said.
