Former Princeton Day standout Aquille Carr has signed a deal with the NBA Development League and will officially become eligible for next month’s NBA D-League draft.

The news was first reported by DLeagueDigest.com.

Carr’s agent, Johnny Foster, told the website the 5-foot-7 guard has “signed a D-League contract for the upcoming draft. It was his decision to play in the D-League, and to develop in order to get ready for next year’s NBA draft.”

Carr, who committed to Seton Hall University in January 2012, declined to make his pledge official during the early signing period last November and instead opted to turn pro.

The Baltimore native known as the “Crimestopper”

because crime supposedly dwindled in the city when he played, has an infant daughter that he wants to provide for.

Carr averaged 30 points per game and helped lead Princeton Day to a 34-13 record last season as the team crisscrossed the country playing games in Tennessee, New York City, Philadelphia and North Carolina.

Carr scored a season-high 52 points and dished out 13 assists in Princeton Day’s final game, a 121-82 victory over Central Jersey Each One Teach One Academy.

Carr, 20, transferred to the Laurel private school last fall, months after leading Patterson High School to the Maryland 3A state championship.

“He’s really been an asset to the team on and off the court,” Princeton Day head coach Van Whitfield said earlier this year. “He’s one of those rare athletes that can make his team better.”
