Mitchellville hoopster to play for Shepherd University

Marcus Pilgrim, of Mitchellville, will play NCAA Division II basketball for the Shepherd University Rams. The 6-foot guard averaged 9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals and made 44 three-pointers last season to earn honorable mention honors playing for Bishop McNamara High School in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.

“Marcus is one of the best defenders I have ever recruited,” stated Coach Justin Namolik. “He improved his shooting tremendously this past season, making him a very good all-around guard.”

Activity center names room for Thunder’s Kevin Durant

The Seat Pleasant Activity Center has named one of its rooms after  Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant.

A ceremony was held Aug. 6 to commemorate Durant’s Den a Teen and Game Lounge Area and his generous gift to the center to equip the room.

Just 12 years ago, Durant learned to play basketball at the center. Now, he has given back to the place that helped him become an NBA star.
