JenaeDublinBRANDYWINE – Denai Bowman and Jenae Dublin led the Gwynn Park Lady Yellowjackets to a dominating victory on Feb. 27 after scoring a combined 37 points to defeat the Central High School Lady Falcons 63-20 during a girls' basketball playoff match in the second round of competition.

In the opening quarter, the Lady Falcons worked out a small 4-2 lead after a well-contested layup made by Trinity Moon. Gwynn Park Head Coach Michael Strother immediately called a timeout to calm his team down in the early moments of the quarter. Following the quick break, the Lady Yellowjackets regained the lead and went off on an 8-2 run to make it 12-4 with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The domination from the Lady Yellowjackets persisted throughout the remainder of the quarter finishing the period up 23-4.

Moving on to the second quarter, the Lady Falcons finally added points to the scoreboard when Moon scored a contested floater to make it 23-6.

However, the Lady Yellowjackets were still on a roll and closed the half out on a 14-2 run making the score 37-6.

In the second half, the Lady Yellowjackets continued their offensive and defensive onslaught. With only six minutes to go, Dublin made a crafty move that led to a foul. She nailed the pair of free throws to make it 38-10.

The Lady Yellowjackets controlled the defensive side of the floor only allowing six points in the third quarter. They extended their lead to 43 points to make it 55-12 at the end of the third quarter.

During the final period of play, the Lady Yellowjackets removed most of their starters from the game and finished strong.

Gwynn Park will advance to play the winner of Crossland at home on March 1 in the third round of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) Class 2A Girls Basketball State Tournament.
