Roosevelt volleyball defeats Northwestern to win regional title

GREENBELT - The top two Prince George’s County volleyball teams, Northwestern and Eleanor Roosevelt, battled in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 4A playoff bracket last Friday for a chance to become the queens of the county and move on to the state semifinals.

Roosevelt, who dominated opposing teams throughout the season, reminded Northwestern just how good it is by sweeping the Lady Wildcats, 25-9, 25-10, 25-11 on Nov. 10 to win the regional championship.

McDonald leads Raiders past Flowers

Elisha McDonald MSSPRINGDALE – As Eleanor Roosevelt running back Elisha McDonald prepared to receive the handoff, a short gentleman wearing a brown, light jacket paced up and down the sidelines, shouting at the top of his lungs the running back’s height and weight.

As McDonald received the ball, the 5-foot-10, 215-pound senior running back ran through a hole for a 58-yard gain. For the first 15 yards, McDonald’s older brother, Quran Neischer, ran with the senior, screaming “feed him!” repeatedly as he flew down the sidelines.

Booker's saves push Lady Raiders to state semifinals

2 ER PhotoGREENBELT – Jasmine Booker was trained in a manner that most goalkeepers do not experience playing in the United States.

Five years ago, the Eleanor Roosevelt senior spent time in a Central American country when her mother, Carmen, was hired for work the U.S. Embassy. Booker spent time playing with a semi-pro women’s side affiliated with Costa Rican professional team Club Sport Herediano.

Eleanor Roosevelt volleyball crowned county champs

Jourdan Page MSSPRINGDALE – The Prince George’s County volleyball regular season came down to two combatants fighting for the right to become the best high school team in the area.

Already champions in their respective divisions, Frederick Douglass and Eleanor Roosevelt fought for a new banner on Nov. 1 during the Prince George's County Volleyball Championships at Charles H. Flowers High School.

Bulldogs beat Roosevelt 3-1 to punch ticket to regional finals

Bowie High School Boys’ Soccer Head Coach Frantz Deetjen calls them a “three-headed monster.”

The trio known as “J.I.M.,” in reference to their first names, have been wreaking havoc on their opponents this season. The group scored 37 of Bowie’s 49 goals this year and helped lead the team to 10 regular season wins and a county championship. However, a state title is the ultimate goal for the Bulldogs.
