Bowie High School Boys’ Soccer Head Coach Frantz Deetjen calls them a “three-headed monster.”

The trio known as “J.I.M.,” in reference to their first names, have been wreaking havoc on their opponents this season. The group scored 37 of Bowie’s 49 goals this year and helped lead the team to 10 regular season wins and a county championship. However, a state title is the ultimate goal for the Bulldogs.

DeMatha soccer falls to Gonzaga in WCAC title game again

The striker, whose scoring touch has tormented defenses 23 times this season, struggled to find the one shot required to give the DeMatha Catholic High School boys’ soccer team the lead in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) Championship.

Laurel boys use two first-half goals to knock off DuVal

A wonder-goal by Thang Tuang proved to be the deciding factor in the Spartans’ 2-1 opening-round victory on Oct. 27.

The Wildcats, known for their build-up attack through quick passing, could not find the scoring touch in the run of play. However, last year’s 4A Regional semifinalists have added a new wrinkle to their offensive prowess: set pieces, or designed plays off restarts.

Good Coaching Has No Gender: Ocampos-Barry restores glory to Bladensburg boys’ soccer

Juliana Ocampos BarryRIVERDALE – José Argueta lay motionless after being slammed to the ground following a hard challenge during the Bladensburg boys’ soccer team’s 2-1 loss at Parkdale on Sept. 22.

As Assistant Coach Craig Tupper yelled at one of the referees, Bladensburg Head Coach Juliana Ocampos-Barry rushed onto the field to check on her injured striker.

She helped Argueta up and walked him toward the sidelines. After a final check, Ocampos-Barry allowed him back onto the field before returning to a methodical, quiet stance and crossing her arms.

IHSLP boys’ soccer aim for championships after año uno

Santos Munoz 1FORESTVILLE – As the International High School at Langley Park (IHSLP) school bus finished its 25-minute bus ride, pulling up in front of an empty soccer field at an abandoned school, Antonio Cruz zipped out, headed toward the goal posts and dared his teammates to score against him.

One-by-one, the junior, 17, made save after save with ease before being corralled by his coaches to start warmups. He smiled after the last save, getting up off the grass and joining his teammates.
