Gwynn Park blanks Hereford, moves on to the state semis

KamariBrown2BRANDYWINE – The 2A Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association regional finals turned out to be a one-sided affair between Gwynn Park and Hereford on Nov. 18.

Kamari Brown led the Yellowjackets’ offense to victory with 304 passing yards, three touchdowns through the air and a rushing touchdown to secure the 43-0 shutout and Gwynn Park's first regional final win since 2005.

Gwynn Park survives Red Storm, moves on in 2A bracket

BRANDYWINE – The opening 2A regional semifinal matchup between Gwynn Park and Edmondson-Westside was a battle until the very end.

A 15-yard touchdown catch from Gwynn Park wide receiver Devin Curry, which happened early in the second quarter, proved to be the game-winner against the Red Storm. Despite the win, Gwynn Park Head Coach Danny Hayes still wanted more out of his team’s 8-2 victory on Nov. 10.

McDonald leads Raiders past Flowers

Elisha McDonald MSSPRINGDALE – As Eleanor Roosevelt running back Elisha McDonald prepared to receive the handoff, a short gentleman wearing a brown, light jacket paced up and down the sidelines, shouting at the top of his lungs the running back’s height and weight.

As McDonald received the ball, the 5-foot-10, 215-pound senior running back ran through a hole for a 58-yard gain. For the first 15 yards, McDonald’s older brother, Quran Neischer, ran with the senior, screaming “feed him!” repeatedly as he flew down the sidelines.

VIDEO: Crusaders hand National Christian its first loss

Rashard Jackson DKUPPER MARLBORO – National Christian Academy came into its high school football matchup with Riverdale Baptist undefeated at 8-0.

By boasting an unblemished record, one might have thought the Eagles were the favorites against a Crusaders’ team that was .500 entering the Oct. 27 contest.
